Beitou Hot Spring
Beitou district was originally dwelled by the Ketagalan tribe. The name of the tribe changed to Pataauw when the Hans came during Ching Dynasty. Most of the hot spring facilities and man-made attractions in Beitou area were established during the Japanese occupation. The precious components of hot springs are believed to have therapeutic effects of diseases and sicknesses. Therapeutic effects include arthritis, muscle soreness, and chronic dermatitis are believed healable through hot springs.
Due to location differences on the Datun volcanic belt, Beitou hot springs have a variety of different colors and distinctive components. Visitors may find Beitou hot springs comprised basically by three components: green sulfur, white sulfur, and iron sulfur. White sulfur hot springs are gentle, while the green sulfur hot springs are erosive and sulfurous. For the iron sulfur hot springs, having containments of iron, the water is in light red-brownish color. It is capable for combinations with SPA and aroma therapies.
Other than enjoying hot springs in Beitou Hot Spring area, visitors are also recommended to visit nearby attractions and museums. Beitou Hot Springs Museum is a hot spring bathhouse that was built in 1913 during Japanese occupation. Visitors may browse the historical bathhouse with the hot spring bath facilities. Visitors may also visit the Taiwan Folk Arts Museum for explorations of one of the largest Japanese-style wooden buildings in Taiwan. In addition, the Ketagalan Culture Center offers visitors with histories and life styles of the local tribe. Visitors may gain knowledge about the native residents’ culture. With abundant beautiful scenic spots and hot springs, Beitou Hot Spring is one of the must-see leisure attractions of Taiwan.
